Cremation is a very old process, dating back as far as
the Stone Age. For much of human history, Cremation was very common
both in the East and West. In the early Christian era, Cremation declined
in the West since early
Christians
preferred earth burial. Current interest in cremation was revived in
the late 1800's. Cremation currently accounts for about one quarter
of all final dispositions.
Cremation is simply a matter of preference and choice. People have various
reasons for selecting cremation influenced by ethnic background or family
tradition. The concept that Cremation is selected because of perceived
lower funeral costs or lack of land for earth burial is totally inaccurate.
Family
members have many choices when they choose the cremation option. They
can elect to have a religious and/memorial service with or without a
viewing. The remains may be buried in a family plot , placed within
a mausoleum or scattered. Some families prefer to have their loved one
memorialized in a garden especially designed for this purpose.
Many families prefer to place the cremated remains in
an urn. Kain-Murphy Funeral Home has a unique selection of urns
displayed at the Funeral home. Pam or Gene are there to assist you with
your selection.
